The Calf Implant Procedure
Calf implants are sought to achieve fullness and size in the lower leg region. Calf implants are placed on top of the medial and or lateral gastrocnemius muscle through an incision behind the knee. Depending on your anatomy, the surgeon may decide to place two small calf implants on each gastrocnemius muscles or one large one over both. The calf implant surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia and takes between 1 1/2 to 2 hours. You can expect moderate pain for the first couple of weeks including mild swelling, painful walks and bruising. Generally, you can resume all normal activity after 4 weeks. Post-surgery recovery products are available and often recommended by your surgeon to quicken the healing time.
