One of the most common questions we get regarding breast augementaion from the patients seeking this procedure is whether they should get saline or silicone breast implants. While there are major differences between the two procedures, there is no clear answer. As with all plastic surgery, it all depends on what the client is looking to achieve.
Saline implants involve inserting a silicone “shell”, then filling it with sterile salt water. The doctor and patient have flexibility on how much saline to inject to get the look desired. If the implant breaks or leaks, the patient is not at a health risk since the saline water is safely absorbed into the bloodstream. The silicone shell, however, will need to be removed. A new shell maybe inserted at same time as the old one is removed.
Silicone implants come pre-filled with silicone gel and are inserted as they come, with no size adjustment. Most people feel that silicone implants feel more “natural” than saline. If the silicone implant leaks, it does not pose a health risk but it will need to be removed. If the patient desires to replace that leaking implant, a new one can be inserted at the same time the old one is removed.
The cost of these procedures differ, depending your location and doctor, but saline tend to be about $1,000 cheaper than Silicone. As with all procedures, the staff at implants.com would be happy to recommend a doctor in your area.
